Debt-ridden Mumbai man kills wife, commits suicide
Plagued by debt, a middle-aged man reportedly murdered his wife and later committed suicide by ingesting poison at his home in Mumbai, police said on Thursday.
According to the police, the Vinod Samjiskar (43), and his Shubhangi, were found dead at their residence in Dadar area of central Mumbai.
They said the incident came to fore when the couple’s relatives visited their home during afternoon hours at a ‘chawl’ (old row tenements) in the Dadar area, where they found both of them lying motionless on the bed.
A senior official said preliminary investigation has found that Vijay Samjiskar who was plagued by debt, murdered his wife first and then killed himself by suicide by consuming some kind of poisonous substance.

In a suicide note, reportedly found in the couple’s home, Samjiskar writes that he killed his wife and is committing suicide as he as he was ‘overburdened with debt’, the official said.
The couple has a 17-year-old daughter, who had left for college in the morning, he said.
The official said that a case of murder and suicide was registered at the Dadar police station and further probe was underway, adding that bodies of the deceased couple have been sent for post-mortem at a civic-run hospital.
The official added that the exact cause of the couple’s death will be ascertained only after completing medico-legal formalities.
