PM Modi also congratulated Indian documentary filmmakers Kartiki Gonsalves and Guneet Monga for winning an Oscar for the Best Documentary Short Film at the 95th Academy Awards. In another tweet, the PM also congratulated documentary filmmakers Kartiki Gonsalves and Guneet Monga for India’s second win at the Oscars. Their documentary short ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ won the Oscar for Best Documentary Short Film.

SS Rajamouli’s RRR, Monday, etched its name in cinema history by becoming the first Indian film to score an Oscar for the best original for its chartbuster song Naatu Naatu. RRR music director MM Keeravaani accepted the award with a humble Namaste gesture and also sang a rendition of The Carpenters’ hit ‘Top Of The World’ in his acceptance speech.

Naatu Naatu—composed by MM Keeravaani and written by lyricist—has already won a Golden Globe Award and a Critics Choice Award.

On Monday, Naatu Naatu became the second Indian language song to win the Oscars for the best original song after Jai Ho from Slumdog Millionaire won the same in 2009.

Ecstatic at the historic Oscar win, the RRR team thanked the film’s fans across the globe and dedicated the award to them. They tweeted: ”We’re blessed that #RRRMovie is the first feature film to bring INDIA’s first ever #Oscar in the Best Song Category with #NaatuNaatu! No words can describe this surreal moment. Dedicating this to all our amazing fans across the world. THANK YOU!!”
