Chhattisgarh jail inmate sends extortion letter to Naveen Jindal, demands Rs 50 crore
Billionaire industrialist Naveen Jindal reportedly received an extortion threat from an inmate lodged in a jail in Bilaspur district of Chhattisgarh, reports said.
According to the police, the letter was sent to the Raigarh-based steel plant of the former Congress MP Naveen Jindal carrying a demand of Rs.50 crore.
The letter, delivered last week by post at Jindal’s Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) factory in Patrapali village, threatened him of dire consequences for Naveen Jindal if the sum of Rs 50 crore was not paid within 48 hours.
Reports quoting police officials said investigations discovered that the letter was penned by an inmate of Bilaspur central jail. They said the inmate was on Monday booked under Indian Penal Code Sections 386 (extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation) by the Kotra Road police.
