Ganga Vilas Cruise: PM Modi virtually flags off world’s longest river cruise, inaugurates Tent City in Varanasi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually flagged off Ganga Vilas Cruise from Ravidas Ghat in Varanasi. In a 51-day journey, the cruise will pass through 50 places, in which tourists will not only see the banks of the Ganges, but will also get a glimpse of the culture here.
Inaugurating the Ganga Vilas Cruise, PM Modi said that Ganga is not a source of water for India, but a witness to the austerity of the great land of India since ancient times. No matter what the conditions of India have been, Ganga has always nurtured and inspired crores of Indians. What can be more unfortunate than this that the strip along the banks of the Ganges went backward after independence. Lakhs of people also migrated from the banks of the Ganga due to this reason.
The PM also said that it was necessary to change this situation, adding that, so the government decided to work with a new approach. On one hand, the cleaning of Ganga river has begun through Namami Gange project, on the other hand Arth Ganga campaign is a step to create a new environment for economic activities in the states surrounding the Ganga. The cruise will give new strength to the Arth Ganga campaign.
PM welcomes foreign tourists
During the journey of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Assam, West Bengal and Bangladesh, the cruise will provide all kinds of facilities. PM Modi also congratulated all the foreign tourisqts who were about to embark on their first journey.
On Tuesday, a batch of 31 Swiss guests reached Varanasi and boarded the Ganga Vilas cruise. The longest and thrilling river cruise journey of water transport in India will left from Varanasi today. This cruise will reach Dibrugarh in Assam after 51 days via Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh.
This journey will be of total 3,200 km and in 51 days the cruise will pass through 27 river systems of India and Bangladesh. The Ganga Vilas Cruise will take a stop at more than 50 places of World Heritage. It will also pass through Jalayan National Parks and Sanctuaries including Sundarbans Delta and Kaziranga National Park.
PM Modi inaugurates Tent City
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also inaugurated the Tent City in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, which was constructed on the banks of the Ganges. The PM has also laid the groundwork for and opened various inland waterway projects in Bihar, West Bengal, and Assam.
On Thursday, the small tent city at Arail was turned over to the tourism department. After the transfer, guests may now book accommodations in this tent city online through the tourism department.
