Ahead of Punjab assembly elections 2022, CM Charanjit Singh Channi has promised to give 1 lakh job opportunities to the youth of Punjab if retained to power. Apart from this, he has also assured free education, free health, and upliftment of women and people without roofs.
While talking about the plans of Congress if re-elected to power, Channi in a press conference promised that he will provide housing for the poor in six months. Adding further he stated that the government will also provide benefits in education, health, and housing and will also offer tax rebates for small businessmen.
Talking about the educational development in Punjab, Channi said that Atta-dal (Flour-lentils) will only fill the stomach. But for the development of Punjab, education is very important. But it is very expensive to study in private institutions so we have decided to ensure that education will be free in government schools, said Channi. He said a university will be set up in Chamkaur Sahib at a cost of Rs 500 crore.
While addressing a press conference in Chandigarh, Channi said that scholarship programs for backward-class students, which were halted during the Akali government, will be resumed. Poor students in the general category, as well as those from farming families, will be eligible for scholarships. There will be fewer regulations on fees.
Channi on employment opportunities said that the government will provide loans and implement a guarantee scheme for government and private employees, as well as those who aspire to study or work abroad. There will also be schemes in place to make it easier for such candidates to travel abroad. He further stated that he got only three months but if he gets five years, he shall sanction one lakh jobs.
Talking about the health sector, he said that people don’t have money for operations, we will have something on the lines of the facilities provided abroad.

In six months, I shall ensure that there is a solid roof over every poor man’s head. This is my commitment. Kachchi chhatth (temporary roof) will be converted to pukki chatth (permanent roof), Channi said.
Punjab Assembly elections 2022 are scheduled to be held on February 20 and the results will be declared on March 10.
