ED summons Rakul Preet Singh in drugs-related money laundering case
The Enforcement Directorate (ED), on Friday, requested actor Rakul Preet Singh to join its investigation into a purported money laundering case involving a drug case in Tollywood (the Telugu film industry).
On December 19, the actor has been asked to appear before the ED.
The actor had previously testified before the federal investigation agency in September of last year after being summoned as part of the investigation in relation to a high-end narcotics ring that was busted in the city in 2017.
Earlier, the ED had summoned a number of other Tollywood celebrities in relation to the notorious scheme to provide expensive drugs like LSD (Lysergic acid diethylamide) and MDMA (3,4-methylenedioxy-methamphetamine) that Telangana’s Prohibition and Excise department had cracked.
Actor Charmee Kaur and Telugu filmmaker Puri Jagannadh had already been questioned by the ED, according to PTI.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Telangana’s Prohibition and Excise department had earlier looked into the suspected drug connections with Tollywood and interrogated 11 people associated with the Telugu film industry, including directors and actors in addition to one of the actors’ drivers.
The SIT also asked a few of the Tollywood celebrities it questioned to appear before the ED later. Rakul Preet, however, was then questioned by the SIT.
Rakul Preet was questioned by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) last year as part of the actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death-related Bollywood drug trafficking investigation.
Last year, Deepika Padukone’s name had also surfaced. The Enforcement Directorate has come to know that these drugs were taken with codes like ‘D’ and ‘N’. There are also reports that D stands for Deepika Padukone and N stands for Mahesh Babu’s wife Namrata. It seems like that these drugs are going to embroil these actors into controversy yet again.
For the unversed, the police had seized a large amount of drugs in Bangalore last year. All the links were also revealed with the arrest of a Nigerian peddler. In this order, the police interrogated Bangalore-based producer Shankar Gowda. It is known that many film stars and political leaders are also involved in this case. Once again, it seems that ED has an eye on everyone.
