A teen rape survivor ended her life on Wednesday in the Ambedkar Nagar area in Uttar Pradesh. Reports say the girl took this step due to alleged inaction by the police after she filed a complaint.
The victim had warned the police of committing suicide if no arrest was made immediately. The 15-year-old was abducted on her way to school by two men and was taken to a hotel where she was raped by both of them, the reports further said.
Following the incident, the District Magistrate has launched an administrative team under the CDO to probe the matter. The DM Samuel Paul N also met the victim’s family and assured stringent action against the accused men. He also promised financial aid to the family.
Rape cases in the country have spiked up over the years. In a similar shocking incident, a 13-year-old Dalit girl was raped in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur and things became worse for her after she was kept at a police station overnight and brutally thrashed when she went to file a rape complaint.
After the incident came to light, 3 police officers were suspended. The rapist was also booked under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act, reports said.
The rape incident took place when the girl went out to play on August 27 and did not return home following which her father filed a missing complaint with the Kotwali police station.
The victim returned after 3 days and shared her ordeal of being abducted and raped for 3 consecutive days.
Meanwhile, a Mumbai court on Thursday convicted a man for raping his minor daughter for years by the special judge of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and sentenced 10 years of jail to the accused.
