RBI UPI123Pay: Here's how to make payments without internet

Keeping in mind the unavailability of smart phones, the RBI has launched digital payment method app UPI123PAY, one does not need internet connectivity to transact online. However, the service can be accessed in various Indian language.

The Reserve Bank of India has launched UPI123Pay to make payments without internet from the users feature phone.

The initiative has been jointly launched by the RBI and the Nation Payment Corporation of India will improve digital payments to a higher level, paving the way for a cashless economy.

With the help of UPI123PAY, the individuals will be able to make direct payments to others via UPI via feature phones also. As of now, the UPI payment facility is restricted to only smartphone users with internet connections.

How to use UPI123PAY

The service can be accessed in various Indian language.

UPI123Pay is a three-step process – call, choose and pay. To start this service, a user will required to link bank account with mobile number using in the feature phone.

If the user has not any UPI ID, then the user needs to create it and set a UPI PIN. Once the UPI PIN is set, the user could use it on his feature phone.

The user will also be required to call on the IVR number and select the phone depending on the service required such as money transfer, LPG gas refill, FasTag recharge, mobile recharge, balance check etc.

To transfer money, one will have to select the phone number of the person to whom money is to be transferred, enter the amount and UPI PIN.

To pay to a merchant, the user can use app based payment method or missed call payment method.

The UPI mode of payment has emerged as one of the most popular mode of payments in the recent years, especially after demonetisation.
