Ganguly majorly lost his creditability in the eyes of the audience and the board after his fallout with former Indian skipper Virat Kohli. After T20 World Cup 2020, Kohli wanted to step down as the T20 captain to shed off some burden but wanted to continue as the ODI and test skipper.

But as several former cricketers like World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev, Sourav Ganguly also believed that split captaincy won’t work in India and hence he asked Kohli to step down as ODI captaincy also.
