Ruturaj Gaikwad smashes his way into the record books as the first to smash 7 sixes in an over
Ruturaj Gaikwad played a captaincy innings on Monday in the quarter-finals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He scored an unbeaten 220 off 159 balls against Uttar Pradesh including 10 fours and 16 sixes. CSK opener also made Word Record by scoring 43 runs through 7 sixes in a single over.
Earlier former Indian cricketer had the record to his name for scoring six 6s in an over against England. And now Ruturaj has added another feather to his cap by scoring 7 sixes in an over. With this the team batting first has put a gains total of 330 runs on the loss of 5 wickets for UP to chase.
Left arm spinner Shiva Singh was bowling the 49th over of the innings. Since the first ball Ruturaj was sending each of them outside the boundary and later the 5th ball was a no ball. Ruturaj hit a six on that one too. In this way, he scored a total of 43 runs including 7 sixes and no balls in an over. He has become the first batsman in the world to hit 7 sixes in an over in List-A cricket.

UP had won the toss and invited Maharashtra to bat first. But they did not have a good start. The team had lost 2 wickets for 41 runs. Rahul Tripathi got out after scoring 9 and Satyajeet scored 11 runs. But captain and opener Ruturaj Gaikwad stood firm on the crease. He shared a half-century partnership with Ankit Bawne for the third wicket. Ankit was dismissed after scoring 37 runs off 54 balls.
Ruturaj Gaikwad completed his century off 109 balls. And reached 150 runs in 138 balls and his next 50 runs came in just 29 balls. He remained unbeaten after scoring 220 runs off 159 balls. He made a century partnership with Aji Qazi for the fourth wicket. Azim got out after scoring 37 runs off 42 balls including 2 fours and 2 sixes. From the bowling side, Karthik Tyagi was the most successful bowler as he took 3 wickets for 66 runs.
This was Ruturaj’s sixth century in last 8 innings of the tournament. This is estimated to be his best form as its the 13th century of List-A career of 25-year-old Ruturaj. He has also been an important part of Chennai Super Kings in IPL too.
Ruturaj has played one ODI and 9 T20 Internationals for India. Before this match, he had scored 3538 runs in 69 List-A matches at an average of 55 with 12 centuries and 16 half-centuries. He has also scored 3 centuries in overall T20 format.
