BJP leader Sanjay Mishra shot dead in Bihar's Katihar district
In a shocking incident, BJP leader Sanjeev Mishra from Bihar’s Patna was shot dead by two bike-borne men in the Katihar district on Monday. The incident took place between 8 am and 9 am near Telta High School More in Balrampur.
According to the reports, the 55-year-old Mishra was standing in front of his house when two men came on a bike and shot at him from close range. The accused fled from the scene immediately. As per the preliminary investigation, the police suspect the incident was a result of political rivalry.
Hearing the sounds of the firing, the family members came out of the house and saw Mishra lying on a road in a pool of blood. Immediately, his family members and locals rushed him to a primary health centre for treatment where doctors declared him brought dead.
A police officer said It was not clear whether two or four assailants came. Some eyewitnesses said that two were bike-borne, while others claimed there were four miscreants on two bikes. The police have been scrutinizing the CCTV footage of the nearby area to identify the miscreants. The criminals fled towards West Bengal, he added.
Soon after the attack, agitated people started protesting and blocking the main road. Not only this, the locals even vandalized the vehicles and the Telta police outpost. The police have been deployed in an area to maintain law and order.
The police said they are currently investigating the matter. A search operation is on to nab the accused. The police have taken his body into their possession and sent it to the Sadar Hospital for a post-mortem.
About a year ago, there was a deadly attack on Mishra during which he sustained a bullet injury on his chest.
