Veteran actor-director Satish Kaushik died of a heart attack on early Thursday morning in Delhi. He was 66.

Kaushik’s close friend and colleague Anupam Kher told news gathering agency PTI that Kaushik was taken to a hospital after he complained of uneasiness at a friend’s place in place.

Kaushik is survived by his wife and daughter.

Anupam Kher in a tweet condoled the distinguished comic actor’s death in a tweet, saying that life would never be the same without his best friend. Kher wrote: “I know that death is the ultimate truth but never in my dreams I thought that I would have to write that about my best friend Satish Kaushik. A sudden full stop to 45 years of friendship. Life will never be the same without you Satish! Om Shanti.”

Satish Kaushik—an alumnus of the National School of Drama and the Film and Television Institute of India—was known mostly for his comedy roles in Bollywood blockbusters such as Mr India, Deewana Mastana, Udta Punjab, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron, among others. The actor also portrayed a wide range of character roles during his illustrious career.

As a filmmaker, Kaushik’s resume includes hits like Tushhar Kapoor-Kareen Kapoor Khan starrer Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai. He also directed the Salman Khan-starrer blockbuster Tere Naam.

Kaushik, according to his last post on social media, attended a Holi bash hosted by noted lyricist-writer Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi at their Juhu home on March 7. The festivities were also attended by newly-weds Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal.

Kaushik’s last tweet on his official Twitter handle read: ‘Colourful Happy Fun #Holi party at Janki Kutir Juhu by @Javedakhtarjadu @babaazmi @AzmiShabana @tanviazmi.. met the newly wed beautiful couple @alifazal9 @RichaChadha .. wishing Happy Holi to everyone #friendship #festival #Holi2023 #colors.”

Condolence messages started pouring in as soon as the news of Kaushik’s death broke.

Actor Kangana Ranaut remembered Kaushik as a kind and genuine man. She wrote: ‘Woke up to this horrible news, he was my biggest cheerleader, a very successful actor and director #SatishKaushik ji personally was also a very kind and genuine man, I loved directing him in Emergency. He will be missed, Om Shanti.”
