On the day of Sawan Amavasya, wake up early in the morning and take bath in a holy river. If river bathing is not possible, then one can also take bath at home by mixing a few drops of Gangajal in the bathing water. Wear clean clothes after bath. After this, worship Lord Shiva and Parvati according to the vidhi. Enhance Goddess Parvati’s looks with a red chunni and jewellery. Then, anoint Shivling with Panchamrit, and offer Bel leaves, cannabis, datura, white flowers and fruits. Chant the mantra ‘Om Uma Maheshwaraya Namaha’ in worship.

On this day, do Shradh, Tarpan and Pind Daan on the banks of a river. Also, feed fodder to the cow.
