IND vs NZ: Shubman Gill smashes 1st ODI double century with 3 sixes
The first match of the ODI series between India and New Zealand is being played in Hyderabad. New Zealand team is playing an ODI series in India after five years. First innings is over and India has given a target of 350 runs for black caps to chase.
Shubman Gill played the best innings of his ODI career. He was dismissed in the 50th over after scoring 208 runs in 149 balls. He has become the 5th Indian player to score a double century in ODIs.
Before him only Rohit Sharma, Ishaan Kishan, Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar could do this. Talking about the batsmen around the world, the double century has come for the 10th time in ODIs. Of these, maximum 5 double centuries have been scored by Indian batsmen.
Gill shared half-century partnerships with Hardik Pandya (28 runs), Suryakumar Yadav (31 runs) and Rohit Sharma. Gill added 74 runs for the fifth wicket with Pandya, 65 runs for the fourth wicket with Surya and 60 runs for the first wicket with Rohit.
The first match of the India-New Zealand ODI series is being played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Team India won the toss and decided to bat.
The Indian team has scored 349 runs for 8 wickets in 50 overs.
Kohli fails to perform
After the dismissal of skipper Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli could not take the Indian innings forward. He got out after scoring just 8 runs. Kohli is bowled by Santner.
Opening batsmen again gave a strong start
Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose batting. His decision also proved right and made another Fifty Plus partnership with opener Shubman Gill. Rohit-Gill added 60 runs on 73 balls for the first wicket. Rohit Sharma got out after scoring 34 runs on 38 balls.
