Sikkim Road Accident: Army truck falls into trench, 16 soldiers martyred
A major road accident has been reported in Sikkim and 16 army personnel have been martyred in this painful road accident. According to an army official, the incident took place in Gema, North Sikkim. The accident vehicle was part of a convoy of three vehicles, which was moving from Chatan towards Thangu on Friday morning.
According to reports, the vehicle skidded down a steep slope at a sharp turn on its way to Jemaa. A rescue operation was immediately launched and currently four injured soldiers have being airlifted. Unfortunately, three Junior Commissioned Officers and 13 soldiers succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident. Indian Army expressed its grief to the bereaved families in this hour of grief.
According to PRO Defense Lt Col Mahendra Rawat, the vehicle skidded down a steep slope at a sharp turn on the way to Jemaa. A rescue operation was immediately launched and four injured soldiers were rescued.
President Draupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh expressed grief over the incident.

May Almighty God give place to the departed souls in His holy feet and speedy recovery to the injured.’
