The soulful singer had lent voices to songs in almost all Indian languages including Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Bengali, and so on. He has sung more than 40,000 songs in his career spanning 5 decades.

All about SP Balasubrahmanyam:

Apart from singing, he had also worked as a music director, actor, film producer, and dubbing artist. Balasubrahmanyam had also hosted and judged Telugu singing reality show Padutha Theeyaga and Kannada TV show Ede Thumbi Haaduvenu.

SP Balasubrahmanyam’s soulful voice made him win several prestigious allocates including Padam Shri in 2020, Padma Bhusan in 2011, twenty-five Nandi Award in Telugu, 6 National Film Awards, and the NTR National Award for his distinguished contribution to cinema. In 2016, He was honoured with the Indian Film Personality of the Year consisting of a Silver Peacock Medal.

Besides singing, SP Balasubrahmanyam has acted in over 48 Telugu, Tamil, and Kannada movies. His last film as an actor was Sriram Adittya’s Devadas (2018). In his inspiring career, SPB worked with composers, from MS Viswanathan to Hamsalekha and AR Rahman. There are several memorable songs crooned by the singer. The singer played many other memorable roles, including dancing with Prabhu Deva in Kadhalan where he played the choreographer’s father.

The singer made his singing debut with Sri Sri Sri Maryada Ramanna on December 15, 1966. His last work was a song on humanity, Bharath Bhoomi, which paid gratitude to the Covid-19 frontline workers like doctors, nurses, police. The song was composed by Ilaiyaraaja.
