Amid the Covid-19 fear in the country, the government has once again resumed the practice of random Covid tests at crowded places such as airports, railway stations, metro stations and touristy places. While collecting tourist samples during a screening at the Taj Mahal, one of them tested positive but has gone missing.

Dr Arun Kumar Srivastava, Chief Medical Officer, said that a tourist from Argentina who had come to visit the Taj Mahal and tested positive for Covid-19 on December 26 has gone missing. Srivastava said that after testing positive in the antigen test, the foreign tourist was not allowed to enter the monument premises.

The health officials said the man went missing soon after he was informed about it by the authorities. He also provided the wrong phone number and the name of the hotel. Srivastava stated that the foreign tourist is being tracked down with the assistance of local authorities, police, and the ASI. The police are also looking for him at the nearby hotels to get the details of the missing man.

Meanwhile, screening at the Taj Mahal and other monuments has ramped up. More than 30,000 visitors visited the Taj Mahal on Wednesday and were only allowed to enter the monument premises after screening at the Eastern and Western Gates.

Earlier last week, a 40-year-old man, who returned to Agra from China, tested positive for Covid-19 following which he was isolated at his home.

Anil Satsangi, the District Health Information Officer of Agra, said that the health department has already started the tests to prevent the spread of infection. As the alert is on, the tests have now been made mandatory for all visitors.

Meanwhile, India reported 268 new Covid-19 cases today. As per the Health Ministry data, the number of active Covid-19 cases in the country has increased to 3,552.
