Cars Yearender 2022: From Mahindra Scorpio N to Jeep Grand Cherokee, there are Marutis and Hondas too
2022 is drawing to a close and will be known for many things in the automobile sector. After the Covid slump, the roller-coaster ride of the auto industry continued with low demand haunting it. The year also saw long waiting periods for bookings running into months due to the continuing semi-conductor shortage.
Amid the chaos this year, these top cars made a splash in the 4-wheeler segment with their entry in India.
Mahindra Scorpio N 2022
Indian car manufacturer Mahindra blew the minds of car enthusiasts by launching its much-awaited SUV Scorpio N at a starting price of Rs 11.99 lakh. The company introduced the vehicle as the Big Daddy of SUVs.
The buzz around the launch of the king-size SUV saw 1,00,000 customers pre-bookings for the vehicle in just 30 minutes since bookings opened.

Maruti Grand Vitara
Seeing the growing room for SUVs in the market, Maruti Suzuki launched the Grand Vitara with two engine options. It offered a 1.5-litre petrol engine with strong hybrid technology, paired with e-CVT. This is the same powertrain used in the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. It produces 91 bhp and 122 nm torque while the electric motor produces 79 bhp and 141 nm. Maruti Grand Vitara has been priced between Rs 10.45 lakh to Rs 19.65 lakh (ex-showroom).

Maruti Baleno CNG/Toyota Glanza
Maruti and Toyota launched their Baleno CNG and Glanza CNG to become the country’s first-ever premium hatchbacks with company-fitted CNG kits. Launched at the starting price of Rs 8.28 lakh and Rs 8.43 lakh (ex-showroom) respectively, attracted many buyers in the country.
The cars come with a 1.2L K12 bi-fuel CNG engine that generates 77 bhp and 98.5 nm of peak power and torque respectively.
Maruti Alto K10 CNG/ Celerio CNG/ S-Presso
Maruti breathed new life into its budget offerings, the Alto K10, the Celerio and the S-Presso. All three changed their soapbar look to that of elegant curves. Maruti has been criticised for its build quality but these vehicles are the company’s volume drivers.
The Alto K10 has the new 1.0L K10C engine that generates 57 bhp power and 82 nm torque in CNG mode. The car has won many buyers.
Jeep Grand Cherokee
American car makers Jeep turned heads this year with its well-built Grand Cherokee at the introductory price of Rs 77.50 lakh (ex-showroom) for its single fully-loaded variant.
At this price range, customers anyhow would expect some big or unique features. Luckily, the makers fulfilled the audience’s expectations and gave two entertainment screens for rear passengers, a 19-speaker Alpine audio sound system, a panoramic sunroof, and 4G connectivity among others. Apart from this, Jeep has also introduced other connected features such as a vehicle monitoring system, Alexa voice assistant, a smartwatch extension, and remote vehicle management with 24-hour surveillance.
Tata Nexon
Recently, Tata has claimed that Nexon is among the company’s hot-selling products. The firm also revealed that the mid-size SUVs have achieved sales growth of 61 percent in 2022. The firm sold almost 16,000 units in November, which is more than normal as per the company. Four-wheelers that come with conventional fuel and EVs have been considered the popular choices by customers.
Honda Civic 2022
With more and more carmakers opting for the SUV route, the sedan seems a dying breed. But there are customers who still consider sedans over gas-guzzling SUVs. Seeing room in such a scenario, Honda unveiled its 6th generation Civic Type R on July 22, 2022.
Since the launch, the vehicle has registered decent sales and has been one of the top priorities of those customers who are looking for a sedan between Rs 17 lakh to Rs 22 lakh.
The new one is much more attractive with bold design and offers an eye-catching exterior. When it comes to the interior, the vehicle offers premium class with a matte black finish dashboard, red colour company’s batching on the steering wheel.
Honda City Hybrid
In India, the Honda City Hybrid is currently the top-of-the-line City sedan model. It has a powerful strong-hybrid drivetrain that combines the power of a 98 PS IC engine and a 109 PS traction e-motor to produce an excellent stated fuel efficiency of 26.5 kmpl.
Toyota Innova Hycross
The new 2-litre petrol engine that powers the Innova Hycross in its all-new form is available with either an ICE-only or strong-hybrid drivetrain. The MPV is not only known to provide an effective drive and luxury experience, but it also does not leave a hole in your pocket: the vehicle provides a decent mileage of around 21 kmpl.
