Man dies in Uttar Pradesh jail, family alleges custodial torture
The family of a man, who died under suspicious circumstances in the Mainpuri district jail in Uttar Pradesh, has alleged that he was beaten up in custody by the police resulting in his death.
According to reports, the deceased, identified as Bhure, a resident of Gihar Colony of Mainpuri Kotwali area, was arrested by the police on Tuesday and lodged in the Mainpuri district jail.
Police said that Bhure’s health deteriorated while in custody, following which he was taken to the district hospital where he passed away.
However, the family of the deceased have accused the police of custodial torture that led to Bhure’s demise. They claimed that the cops took him away, thrashed him, and then murdered him while in jail.
CO city Mainpuri, Santosh Kumar, while refuting the family’s allegations, said that the deceased had been arrested by the police after a court had issued a Non-Bailable warrant (NBW) against him, adding that his death is being investigated.
