BJP MLA Kailash Chandra Gahtori on Thursday resigned from his Champawat seat. His resignation came at a time when Uttarakhand CM is eyeing for bypoll. Now, it is likely that Pushkar Singh Dhami is expected to contest his bypoll from Champawat.
The reports said that Gahtori submitted his resignation to Uttarakhand Assembly Speaker Ritu Khanduri. It is also reported that after submitting the resignation, he went to the chief minister’s residence.
Uttarakhand BJP President Madan Kaushik, Cabinet ministers Chandan Ram DAS, Saurabh Bhauguna and MLA Khajan Das were also present when Gahtori handed over his resignation to the speaker. As Gahtori quit, Khanduri said that his resignation has been accepted.
Earlier, Gahtori himself offered to vacate his seat for Dhami soon after the latter became the chief minister, He said that it will be an honour for me if the chief minister contests from Champawat.
In the recently concluded assembly election, BJP won the Uttarakhand Assembly elections, Pushkar Singh Dhami could not save his own Khatima seat. He contested from Khatima and lost it to Bhuvan Chandra Kapri of the Congress.
