WATCH: School bus washes away in floodwater in Uttarakhand's Champawat
A school bus was washed away in Uttarakhand today as it tried to move across a flooded Poornagiri road in Champawat district.
A shocking video of the incident is doing rounds on social media.
There were no students in the bus when it was washed away while crossing the flooded Tanakpur’s Poornagiri road, the report said.
The report also said that the bus driver and conductor were safely evacuated.
Confirming the incident, the Tanakpur SDM Himanshu Kafaltia said the school bus was washed away this morning. The driver was apparently at fault as the waterflow was not so strong that it will wash away a bus, the SDM said.
Uttarakhand is witnessing heavy rains for the past few days. Following this, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for several districts including Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital, Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar of Uttarakhand for the next three days.
A cloudburst was reported today in neighbouring Himachal Pradesh’s Shalkhar village where some vehicles were buried and some houses were damaged.
