Why is Vat Savitri fast observed for two days?

Vat Savitri fast is observed on the new moon day of Jyeshtha month. On this day, fasting is observed on the new moon day in places like UP, MP, Bihar, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana etc. in North India. At the same time, in Gujarat, Maharashtra, South India, this fast is kept on the full moon day. That is why it is known as Vat Purnima Vrat. Vat Purnima fast has been mentioned in Skanda Purana. This fast is kept in the name of Jyestha Purnima.

Importance of Amavasya and Purnima fasting

Equal importance of Vat Savitri Vrat and Vat Purnima Vrat has been told from religious point of view. The difference is only in their dates. In North India, married women observe fast on the new moon day of Jyeshtha month. Whereas in other places, a fast is kept after 15 days on Vat Purnima Tithi. Both the fasts are kept for the long life of the husband. Also, women worship the banyan tree for a happy married life.

Vat Savitri Fasting 2022 Puja Muhurat

The new moon date of Jyeshtha month will start on May 29 at 02:54 pm. At the same time, the new moon date will end on May 30 at 04:59 pm. On the basis of Udayatithi, Amavasya date will be considered as May 30. Therefore Vat Savitri Vrat will be kept on May 30. The auspicious time for worship on this day is from 07:12 in the morning.

Vat Purnima Fasting 2022 Puja Muhurat

The full moon date of the month of Jyeshtha will start from 09:02 pm on Monday, June 13, at 05:21 pm on Tuesday, June 14. On the basis of Udayatithi, June 14 will be kept on the day of Vat Purnima. The worship Muhurta of Vat Purnima Vrat will be done from morning itself.
