Veteran actor Vikram Gokhale passes away
Veteran actor Vikram Gokhale passed away on Saturday in Pune. The actor was hospitalised earlier this month and was admitted to a private hospital in Pune, reports said.
Reports also said Gokhale was suffering from cancer and doctors refused to reveal any other information.
Earlier, there were several reports that claimed the passing away of the actor on Wednesday. However, his daughter refuted the rumours of her father’s demise and said he slept into a coma but was not dead. Following the rumours, several Bollywood stars including Akshay Kumar, Aly Goni, Ajay Devgn, Jaaved Jaafery, and others shared their condolences.
Vikram Gokhale was popularly known for his acting prowess in films like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Agneepath, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Parwah, Khuda Gawah, and others. He also won several prestigious accolades including the National Award for Best Actor in 2010 for his performance in the Marathi film Anumati.
Son of popular Marathi actor Chandrakant Gokhale, the prolific actor who took over the TV industry, Marathi theatre, and Hindi Cinema. Notably, Gokhale’s grandmother Kamalabai Gokhale was the first female child artist of Indian cinema.
After creating a niche of himself in the Hindi cinema, Gokhale also worked in popular TV soap operas. He is popularly known for the show Udaan which premiered on DD National from 1989 to 1991. He also worked in popular shows like Ghar Aaja Pardesi, Alpviraam, Jaana Na Dil Se Door, Sanjeevni, and Indradhanush.
In total, Vikram Gokhale acted in more than 90 films and theatre plays and as many as 70 Marathi films. In 2011, he was honoured with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contributions to theatre.
Vikram Gokhale was last seen in the 2022 film Nikkamma co-starring Shilpa Shetty, Sherlin Shetty, and Abhimanyu Dassani. His last work will be in the upcoming web series Ambedkar-The Legend.
