Wrestling oversight committee accused of leaking sensitive information by Vinesh Phogat
As recently the country was taken aback after the medal-winning wrestlers took to the streets to protest against the alleged sexual harassment in the Wrestling Federation of India, and more development has come to light. In the most recent development, wrestler Vinesh Phoga has accused the oversight committee of leaking sensitive information to the press.
The wrestler took to Twitter to inform that a member of the probe committee was allegedly leaking sensitive information about sexual harassment complaints to the media. Phogat in her tweet also milled the attitude of the people against women.
In her tweet, the wrestler wrote and said that it has come to her attention that a sportsperson of the Oversight Committee has allegedly leaked contents of the complaint of sexual harassment as some news reports had reported the information. She further wrote that such behavior showcases the attitude towards women. She also wrote that the person, she didn’t name, is a member of both committees that is probing into the sexual misconduct against the WFI high-ranking officers.
Phogat in her tweet also stressed on the lack of trust in the probing committee and also questioned the fairness of the investigation. The wrestler further sought action against the member and demanded to for the member’s removal.

The wrestler, in her tweet, also accused the unknown member of working hand in gloves with the former president, Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, against whom several wrestlers have alleged sexual misconduct. The sportsperson that Phogat didn’t name in her tweet, slammed them for their anti-women actions. She further urged the authorities to promptly investigate the matter.
The tweet by the Wrestler comes amid the ongoing clash between the WFI and wrestlers where several women wrestlers had accused the Wrestling Federation of India of sexual misconduct in the organization. After the medal-winning wrestlers protested against WFI, the Centre directed the WFI to halt the work and formed an oversight committee to investigate into the matter.
The Oversight Committee had entrusted boxer Mary Kom to lead the Oversight Committee till the case is concluded.
Most recently, the Sports Ministry increased the deadline for the probe committee to submit its report by two weeks.
It was also reported that the country’s top wrestlers had pulled out of several international competitions as a result of the clash between the WFI and the wrestlers.
