Zomato, on Saturday, pulled the cord of their advertisement starring Hritik Roshan and released a public statement offering their sincerest apology. Zomato further clarified that they had no intentions of hurting anyone’s beliefs or sentiments. The public statement came in light of the row stirred due to the advertisement starring Hritik Roshan.

The Zomato advertisement had run in several Pincodes in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh as the ad was about a famous restaurant located in that area. The advertisement starring Hritik Roshan had shown him craving a thali (platter) in Ujjain and then he further went on to say that he will order from Mahakal, another name for lord Shiva.

The advertisement received a lot of flak from the priests of Mahakaleshwar Temple in Madhya Pradesh, following its release. The priests had accused the advertisement of hurting their sentiments and also demanded its withdrawal. The priests had also demanded a redressal.

Following the row, the company came out to clarify the use of the word Mahakal and added that the term was used in the context of the famous restaurant, Mahakal, whose thali’s are always in demand. The company also added that the advertisement is a part of a pan-India campaign for which they identify the top local restaurants and their top dishes based on popularity in each city.

Mahakal restaurant is located in Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh and its Thalis (Platter) are in high demand.

He further added that he has asked the Police superintendent of Ujjain to take cautious of the issue and report so that actions can be taken.

The Hindu Mahakaleshwar temple is devoted to the worship of Shiva. It is also one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, shrines that are speculated to be the most sacred places of lord Shiva.
